NBCUniversal and Aptos Labs are partnering on the launch of a new fan engagement and rewards platform called Backlot Club, an expansion of an existing strategic relationship.
Powered by the Aptos Layer 1 blockchain, Backlot aims to connect Universal fans using digital rewards collected online and at in-person events.
“It’s a glimpse of how one of the world’s largest media companies is beginning to experiment with blockchain infrastructure beyond collectibles or NFTs,” a representative told The Block in an email.
Backlot has seemingly already been piloted at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights 2025, where it powered an “onchain scavenger hunt.” Users collected digital medallions tied to physical and virtual rewards, all tethered to Aptos-based assets.
This is not the first time Aptos and NBCUniversal have collaborated. The companies have previously partnered on web3 fan engagement initiatives supporting films like “Renfield” and “The Exorcist: Believer” as part of a multi-year agreement to expand blockchain-based games, loyalty programs, and IP experiences.
Backlot Club, again blending digital and real-world fan interactions, is built on Aptos’ decentralized operating system for media called Watchee.
