Chainalysis introduces ‘blockchain intelligence agents’ trained on millions of investigations

Chainalysis is leaning further into AI with the introduction of blockchain intelligence agents, according to an announcement on Tuesday.

Blockchain intelligence agents are specialized tools designed by Chainalysis to help organizations like law enforcement, compliance teams, financial institutions, and crypto businesses investigate, monitor, and combat illicit activity on blockchains more efficiently.

The autonomous bots are trained on Chainalysis’ massive, proprietary dataset built from over a decade in business with the aim of bolstering onchain analysis operations.

“This isn’t a new product or a bolted-on chatbot feature. Agents are the evolution of the platform we’ve built and everything we’ve learned — billions of screened transactions, over ten million investigations, more than a decade of blockchain intelligence — that will work alongside your team,” Chainalysis CEO Jonathan Levin wrote in a statement.

According to the announcement, the agentic bots can be set to either follow deterministic workflows — meaning “the same inputs, rules, and data always produce the same outcome” — or exploratory mode. Both settings produce audit trails, and human monitors will be able to decide the agents’ “level of independence” and tasks to automate.

Audit trails provide a step-by-step record of what data was used, what reasoning the agent followed, and what actions it took, in order to meet compliance and legal standards, according to the announcement. Chainalysis notes it is the only onchain analysis firm to provide data that has been ruled reliable and admissible in court

“We have the context of every type of investigation you run and the compliance obligations you navigate daily. We know how transactions on the blockchain actually function, and the workflows, audit trails, and standards of evidence you rely on,” Levin added.

The crypto monitoring firm plans to start rolling out the tools this summer, per the announcement.

So far during the testing phase, Chainalysis said it has deployed agents for open-source intelligence collection, tracking complex investigation workflows across multiple blockchains, and for providing raw alerts. The bots can also code web applications and generate summary reports, like general-purpose AI.

“As bad actors increasingly leverage AI to scale their operations, it’s critical that those working to stop them do the same,” Levin wrote.
