The first exchange-traded fund tracking the value of Chainlink has begun trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
Grayscale Investments debuted its Grayscale Chainlink Trust ETF with the ticker symbol GLNK on Tuesday on NYSE Arca, the subsidiary of the NYSE Group.
“Chainlink’s decentralized oracle network is setting the market standard for verifiable data and cross-chain connectivity that underpins tokenization and DeFi across public blockchains,” said Inkoo Kang, senior vice president of ETFs at Grayscale, in a statement. “With GLNK, investors can gain exposure to this foundational infrastructure in the familiar ETP wrapper.”
The ETF launch is a conversion of the Grayscale Chainlink Trust, a private placement fund that has over $17 million in assets under management. LINK is in the top 25 largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, according to The Block’s price page. LINK is an oracle network that connects blockchains to external data and is widely adopted by national governments, top DeFi protocols and major financial institutions, according to its site.
In a statement on Tuesday, Grayscale pointed to the significance of Chainlink as tokenization and decentralized finance gain momentum.
“As tokenization and DeFi accelerate, every smart contract and on-chain asset will require secure links to off-chain data, systems, and payments, positioning Chainlink as the connective tissue of Web3 and the trusted layer underpinning asset creation, valuation, and settlement across the tokenized economy,” the firm said.
Grayscale has now debuted a few crypto ETFs over the past few weeks, including ones focused on XRP, another tracking Dogecoin, and one tracking SOL. The firm is also seeking the Securities and Exchange Commission’s approval to launch what would be the first-ever Zcash ETF.
