Coinbase incubated Ethereum L2 Base network rolls out bridge to Solana

Base, the Ethereum Layer 2 incubated by Coinbase, has officially launched its bridge to Solana. The integration is powered by Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), according to an announcement on Thursday.

“If we want to bring the world onchain, we need to make it dead simple for people to move assets at the speed of the internet, discover new apps no matter which chain they’re built on, and unlock value wherever it exists,” Base wrote in a blog post. “This is a major step towards our goal for Base to serve as a hub for the everything economy: every asset, across every network, at any time, and Solana is just the beginning.”

The bridge will enable “builders on Base support Solana assets in their apps, users trade Solana assets on Base, and communities tap into liquidity across Base and Solana,” the team noted.

Base, launched in August 2023 as a secure, low-cost, and developer-friendly platform, was built using the Optimism tech stack. The network has quickly become the most active L2 ecosystem by a number of metrics, including profitability and number of blobs, according to The Block’s data.

In addition to adding native support for Solana’s SPL tokens in Base apps, the bridge will also enable users and developers to export Base assets onto Solana. “Users can trade and use assets across chains in apps that integrate the bridge, regardless of whether they’re on Base or Solana,” the team said.

Chainlink’s CCIP is one of the most popular cross-chain interoperability frameworks, powering token transfers and other arbitrary data messages across several blockchains.

The Base team said its bridge to Solana uses a “bespoke cross-chain oracle.” Both Coinbase and Chainlink node operators will independently verify all messages, “ensuring token transfers between Base and Solana are safe and reliable.”

Base creator Jesse Pollak hinted a Solana integration was underway as early as August 2025, though Base has long hinted at becoming a multi-blockchain application layer.

Pollak doubled down on Solana support during September’s Basecamp event, when he also said the Base team was considering a native token
