Coinbase secures MiCA license via Luxembourg to expand Europe presence

Crypto exchange Coinbase has secured a MiCA license in Luxembourg, allowing it to offer its full suite of crypto services across 27 European Union member states.

The exchange stated on Friday that it has obtained a license from the Luxembourg Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier and has officially established its European hub in the country.

“Over the past few years, Coinbase has worked closely with regulators across Europe, securing licences in Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain,” Coinbase said. “Now, with MiCA, we’re uniting these efforts under a single framework, enabling millions of Europeans to access regulated, trusted, and secure crypto services.”

MiCA, which came into full effect at the end of last year, establishes comprehensive guidelines and regulations for crypto assets across the European Union (EU) trading bloc.

Gemini, a crypto exchange owned by the Winklevoss twins, is also in the final stages of obtaining a MiCA license in Malta, according to Reuters. The company applied for an operational license there in January of this year. Meanwhile, OKX has also selected Malta as its MiCA hub.
