U.S. crypto exchange Coinbase plans to add support for the popular memecoin Fartcoin, the DEX PancakeSwap’s utility token CAKE, and the SQD token from the AI data network Subsquid, the company wrote on the social media platform X, as altcoins see bolstered investor appetite.
Trading for the tokens will start on Thursday at 12 p.m. ET (16:00 UTC) once they meet liquidity conditions, enabling trading pairs of FARTCOIN-USD, CAKE-USD, and SQD-USD. The tokens will be available on Coinbase’s retail platform as well as Coinbase Exchange, which serves institutional investors, among supported jurisdictions.
Altcoins, which refer to crypto tokens beyond bitcoin, saw a notable increase in venture interest — particularly for firms building out altcoin treasuries — as well as boosted capital inflow from investors this year. Binance even launched an altcoin-only spot liquidity program for small- to mid-sized market makers earlier this month.
PancakeSwap’s CAKE was valued at $2.49 as of publication, with SQD trading at $0.27 according to The Block’s price data.
The Solana-based Fartcoin trades at $1.41, seeing an increase of about 10% in the past 24 hours, according to The Block’s Fartcoin price data. The token has a total market capitalization of $1.4 billion and drew in $351.3 million in trading volume within the prior day.
Fartcoin’s popularity arose in October 2024 after the AI bot Truth Terminal promoted both it and another memecoin GOAT. Fartcoin saw further growth in April after it decoupled from the broader crypto market to grow around 99% within a week and around 30% in just one day.
Fartcoin is now the second-largest memecoin behind U.S. President Donald Trump’s Official Trump token, according to data from Coingecko.
