Coinbase’s Base network resumes normal block production after temporary halt

Coinbase-incubated Layer 2 chain Base has resumed block production after experiencing a temporary halt that impacted key functionalities earlier today.

According to the network’s official status website, Base first reported at 1:15 a.m. that its mainnet was experiencing a delay, affecting deposits, withdrawals, block production, and Flashblocks on the mainnet.

Around 30 minutes later, the network noted that it had identified and resolved the issue and would continue to monitor the mainnet.

While the network did not explain the issue that caused the outage, Base mainnet has been seeing a surge in activity in recent weeks, which can be partially attributed to the launch of its rebranded Base App.

The Base App’s relaunch last month saw the incorporation of Zora and Farcaster into the app, which established a booming decentralized social and creator economy on the network, leading to a surge in activity.

This can be spotted in the number of new token launches on the network throughout July, soaring from just 6,649 on the first day of the month to approximately 50,000 by month-end.
