TON Tech, the firm developing products for Telegram’s preferred blockchain TON (TON), said Tuesday it has launched AI-powered agents that are able to autonomously execute key onchain transactions.
“At launch, users can fund a dedicated wallet for an agent, which can then execute on-chain actions like transfers, swaps, and DeFi activity, including automated trading within set budgets, staking, and basic portfolio management,” a spokesperson told The Block.
The launch comes a day after the crypto exchange Gemini rolled out a form of agentic trading, which lets users connect AI models like Claude and ChatGPT to their trading accounts. That way, AI agents can autonomously monitor markets, in addition to placing and executing trades.
Broadly speaking, there is an “agentic AI” trend taking root in and outside of the crypto sector, where users are increasingly empowering AI bots to access digital services and execute transactions.
“Agentic Wallets turn AI agents from assistants to actors,” head of TON Tech Andrew Grekov said in a statement. “Agents on Telegram can not only communicate, but transact — making payments and interacting with on-chain services on behalf of users, without ever touching their keys. This unlocks a new category of AI-driven applications.”
TON activity down
TON Tech is the infrastructure team within The Open Platform, or TOP, the chief developer creating blockchain-based tools for the Telegram messaging app, which has about 1 billion users.
Activity on the TON blockchain has declined significantly since late 2024, when active addresses exceeded 1 million users for a brief spell. According to The Block Data Dashboard, active user numbers have fallen below 100,000.
A major proponent of the TON blockchain, Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov said earlier this month that TON had been upgraded to sub-second finality.
