Organizers of TOKEN2049 said the Dubai edition of the global crypto conference will be held on April 21–22, 2027, postponing the previously planned 2026 gathering by one year as security conditions in the United Arab Emirates deteriorate.
The decision was announced Friday in an update citing “ongoing uncertainty in the region” and its impact on safety, international travel, and operational logistics, which organizers said could prevent the industry from convening at the scale typically associated with the conference.
“We know this is disappointing news for many of you who have already made plans, and we don’t take that lightly,” the event organizer said in a statement. “Preparations for the event were progressing strongly. However, ensuring the global crypto industry can gather safely, and at the scale and quality that define TOKEN2049, remains our top priority.”
For registered attendees, all existing tickets will remain valid for the new April 2027 dates. Alternatively, organizers are providing an option to transfer credentials to the TOKEN2049 Singapore conference, scheduled for Oct. 7–8, 2026, at Marina Bay Sands.
The decision follows Iranian missile and drone strikes that targeted Dubai International Airport and areas near the city’s financial district, according to CBS News, which also reported explosions in central Dubai that damaged buildings and forced staff evacuations. Widespread airspace closures have disrupted regional travel, with The Guardian noting that the UAE has absorbed more than two-thirds of Iran’s retaliatory strikes.
The postponement comes one day after The Open Network canceled its Gateway Dubai event, scheduled for May 1-2, citing “the Middle East conflict and safety conditions in the UAE area.” TON organizers said they are exploring alternative formats for a Gateway event before year-end.
